ComicTagger

ComicTagger is a niche, open-source software house that concentrates on a single, tightly-focused utility: a cross-platform metadata editor for digital comic-book archives. Built with Python and the PyQt GUI toolkit, its eponymous application lets collectors and digital-library managers embed or correct bibliographic data inside CBZ, CBR, CBT and other archive formats that store page images. Typical workflows include batch-tagging newly downloaded issues with Series, Volume, Number, Title, Publisher, Publication Date, Genre, Synopsis and cover thumbnail; synchronising local collections with online databases such as Comic Vine; renaming files automatically to match a consistent pattern; and validating or repairing corrupted archives. Because the tool writes metadata in the ComicRack and ComicBookInfo XML schemata, the enriched files integrate smoothly with popular readers like Kovid Goyal’s Calibre, Ubooquity, Komga, or YACReader, giving users sortable, searchable libraries across Windows, macOS and Linux. Command-line switches also allow headless operation for server-side scripts or NAS-based organisers. The project is community-driven, accepts pull requests for new metadata sources, and releases portable builds that require no installation privileges. ComicTagger’s software is available for free on get.nero.com, where downloads are delivered through trusted Windows package sources such as winget, always fetch the newest upstream build, and can be queued alongside other applications for unattended batch installation.
